Summary
Your organization sets up your shift to start and end in one of two ways: by scanning the vehicle's QR code, or automatically based on your vehicle's location (home base). This article explains both.
ℹ Note — Only one method applies per vehicle — never both at the same time. If you scan a vehicle that uses the home base method, the app shows you an explanation instead of starting a shift.
Before you start
You need a driver account and must be logged in to the M-Protect app.
Check with your fleet manager which method applies to your vehicle: QR scan or home base.
Steps
Method A — QR scan
Log in with your driver account. You land directly in the driver screens.
Tap Start / stop shift and scan the QR sticker on the vehicle. If the camera doesn't work, use Enter code instead.
Enter your order number. This is required — your shift won't start without it, and it travels with any incidents or alerts you raise during the shift.
If a lock test is required for your vehicle, complete it: unlock, lock, and check the door, in order. The app reads the real lock status live as you go. [Screenshot 2]
Once everything is confirmed, your shift starts automatically — the vehicle locks, and monitoring switches on.
Ending your shift (QR scan)
Scan the same QR code again. The scan itself is the confirmation — there's no extra pop-up.
Your shift ends and monitoring switches off.
Method B — Home base (no scanning)
Drive away from the depot area. Once you've stayed outside it continuously (a few minutes, by default), your shift starts automatically.
Drive back and stay in the depot area continuously (a few minutes, by default) and your shift ends automatically. You don't need to do anything.
ℹ Note — With the home base method, the app can't ask for your order number or run a lock test automatically. If either is still needed, you'll see it as an open action on your shift: "Order number still needed" or "Lock test still needed." Complete both and the app shows "All in order."
Result / How to verify
Once your shift is active, the vehicle card shows the current lock status (locked/unlocked) and the last update time. During your shift you have four actions on the vehicle card: Unlock, Lock, Incident and Lock test. Unlock and Lock always ask for a reason, and for some shipments also a pickup code.
If it doesn't work
If the app can't confirm that the lock reacted, it tells you clearly rather than showing a false success. If a lock test fails or your shift won't start, contact your fleet manager or ARC support with your vehicle and case details.
